Reception

Welcome to Reception

Current teachers:

Moon Class: Mrs Hinder/ Mrs Young

Star Class: Ms Waters

Our current topic is: This is Me!

Update 15.09.17

Wow what a great start to the Reception Year! It has been so nice to see the children coming in with smiles on their faces and enjoying being at school.

Over the past two weeks in Reception we have looked at the sounds s,a,t,p,i,n and m. We have also been learning some maths songs (listed below).

5 little ducks

1, 2, 3, 4, 5

5 little speckled frogs

10 in a bed

Thank you so much for those of you that have returned the topic bubbles. They are helping us learn more about the children and they have enjoyed sharing them with their class.

Next week (week three 18.09.17) we will be introducing the sounds d, g, o and c. Learning both the names and sounds of these letters. If you could point out things that start with these letters at home and on journeys it will really help the children to start making connections.

When we teach the children new sounds we also learn the Jolly song. These can be found on youtube (type in jolly songs phase 2) there is also a jolly songs app that can be downloaded onto phones and tablets.

In maths we will continue to look at numbers to 20, practicing counting and ordering these numbers and we will keep singing our number songs.

We will also be learning the enormous turnip poem ready for our harvest performance – more details to follow.

Most of you have now signed up for home visits if you need to change these or ask any questions please do so when you drop your child at school.

Wow!

We now have our wow display in the corridor. This is a display to show us some of the wow things that your child does out of school. Please share with us any work they have done at home or maybe a certificate from a club or hobby they have. We can take a photocopy of any pictures/certificates and out them up on our board.

Maths Challenge Week 3 18.09.17

To recognise and order numbers to 10

Ways to practice:

Write the numbers to 10 on post it notes and see which numbers your child recognises. Once they recognise the numbers see if you can order them together.

Number spotting: when you are out and about spot numbers in the environment.

Online game: Counting Caterpillar

http://www.ictgames.com/caterpillar_slider.html

The children really enjoy this game and it is a great way for them to practice ordering numbers.

Make it harder: look at numbers up to 20.

Previous Post: 1.09.17 Start of the school year

Key Things:This term we will be focusing on getting the children to share information about each other. So we can all learn about the children sharing similarities and differences.

To do this we will be asking the children to make a personal shoe box with 5 items in that tell us more about them. Before asking the children to do this the adults in Early Years will share a personal shoe box. Once these have been shared we will put an example up so you can see what will be expected.

Please ensure your child comes to school with:

-       A labelled coat

-       Water bottle (please ensure this is filled with water not squash)

-       Fruit (for morning snack)

-       Book Bag
